On October 10, the final and award ceremony of the 2026 Global Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest took place in Hangzhou’s Future Sci-Tech City. WABO’s project to build a human neural intent model won first prize in the startup group. Founder and CEO Xingzhi Zhang accepted the award on behalf of the team.
Twenty finalists from 340 applications
Organized by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), the contest opened in July and received 340 applications. Following preliminary selection and semifinals, 20 teams advanced to the final: ten in the startup group and ten in the growth group. Each group awarded one first prize.
According to CAAI’s report, participating projects spanned optical computing chips, embodied intelligence, brain–computer interfaces and intelligent medical devices, with teams from universities and industry in China and abroad. Fourteen judges from academia, investment institutions and industry evaluated technological advancement, commercialization prospects, business viability and team capabilities.
CAAI’s published results list Chengdu WABO Technology Co., Ltd. as the startup first-prize recipient for the project “瓦博科技-构建人类神经意图模型.” Chen Chun, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Zhejiang University, and Yang Jiangen, deputy Party secretary and head of Yuhang District, presented awards together at the ceremony.
A human intent interface for Physical AI
WABO’s entry addresses a research question: as AI agents and robots move into the physical world, how can human goals, judgments and control intentions inform machine action?
WABO is developing the WABO Neural Intent Model (NIM), combining neural signals such as EEG and EMG with task context. The work explores how to interpret high-level human intent under specific task conditions and connect it to actions by intelligent devices.
